Trust - Job 31:24-28

Take Time to Pray

Psalm 96:1-3

1 Sing to the LORD a new song;

sing to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Sing to the LORD, praise His name;

proclaim His salvation day after day.

3 Declare His glory among the nations,

His marvelous deeds among all peoples.

Examine

24 "If I have put my trust in gold

or said to pure gold, 'You are my security,'

25 If I have rejoiced over my great wealth,

the fortune my hands gained,

26 If I have regarded the sun in its radiance

or the moon moving in splendor,

27 so that my heart was secretly enticed

and my hand offered them a kiss of homage,

28 then these also would be sins to be judged,

for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.

Notice

God

  • God is the one and only true God.

  • God is the only one to be worshiped.

Lesson

  • Worship only God

  • God is the only True God

  • Do not put earthly things before God.

Do

Question

  • What sorts of things come between me and God?

Response

  • This question cuts us to the quick. Admit to something we put before God? No way - you go first.

  • One example: Social media - how much time do I spend scrolling when I can be serving God? I even felt the temptation to look at an email alert and let it interrupt this devotion.

  • Things like social media are not inherently bad or good. We can use social media to spread God's Word to so many people. It's how we are using God's blessings/gifts He has given us and what our focus is. God does not want to deny us enjoyment, but enjoyment must never take the place of God in our lives. Our true joy comes from our relationship with God and spending time with Him in His Word, in prayer and in worship.
